3 Essential Steps to Secure Your TikTok Account

Your privacy on TikTok is important. By managing a few key settings, you can control who sees your content and how they interact with you. Here are three essential steps to make your TikTok experience safer.
1. Make Your Account Private
This is the single most effective step for privacy. When your account is private:
New users must request to follow you, and you must approve them.
Only your approved followers can see your videos, LIVEs, bio, and likes.
Others cannot Duet, Stitch, or download your videos.
How to do it: Go to Profile > ☰ (Menu) > Settings and privacy > Privacy > and turn on Private account.
2. Control Who Can Interact With You
Even with a public account, you can limit interactions. In the "Settings and privacy" > "Privacy" menu, review the following:
Comments: Choose who can comment on your videos (Everyone, Friends, or No one).
Duet & Stitch: Decide who can use your videos to create Duets and Stitches (Everyone, Friends, or Only me).
Direct Messages (DMs): Control who can send you a message (Everyone, Suggested friends, Friends, or No one).
3. Manage Your Data and Ad Personalization
TikTok uses your data to show you personalized ads. You can limit this:
Go to "Settings and privacy" > "Ads".
Here, you can turn off "Ad personalization" using data from TikTok's partners.
You can also manage your "Interests" that TikTok uses for ads and even download a copy of your data to see what information the platform holds.
