How to Use Family Pairing to Keep Your Teen Safer on TikTok

TikTok's "Family Pairing" feature allows parents and guardians to link their TikTok account to their teen's account. This lets you manage their safety and digital wellbeing settings directly, promoting a safer online experience through guidance.
1. How to Set Up Family Pairing
Both the parent/guardian and the teen need their own TikTok accounts to link them.
On both phones, go to Profile > ☰ (Menu) > Settings and privacy.
Tap on Family Pairing.
Choose who is the Teen and who is the Parent.
The parent’s app will show a QR code. The teen needs to scan this QR code with their phone from their Family Pairing screen.
Once scanned, confirm the accounts to be linked.
2. What You Can Manage with Family Pairing
Once linked, the parent can manage several key settings on the teen's account from their own phone:
Daily Screen Time: Set a limit for how long your teen can use TikTok each day.
Restricted Mode: Filter out content that may be less appropriate for younger audiences.
Direct Messages: Restrict who can send messages to your teen's account, or turn off DMs completely.
Search: Decide if your teen can search for content, users, hashtags, or sounds.
Discoverability: Choose whether your teen's account is private (recommended) or public.
Liked Videos: Decide who can view the videos your teen has liked.
Family Pairing is designed to help you guide your teen’s digital journey and open up conversations about online safety.
